The Scottish HighlandsDuntulm is believed to have been first fortified in the Iron Age and then used by the Norse and subsequently by their successors, the MacLeods of Skye. James V was known to have visited the castle in 1540. By the early 1600s it came under the control of the MacDonalds of Sleat who made a number of improvements before abandoning it around 1730.
