The Scottish Highlands

Duntulm is believed to have been first fortified in the Iron Age and then used by the Norse and subsequently by their successors, the MacLeods of Skye. James V was known to have visited the castle in 1540. By the early 1600s it came under the control of the MacDonalds of Sleat who made a number of improvements before abandoning it around 1730.
